Why balancing omega 6 to 3 is so important
This is the thing most people have never had measured, and it sits underneath almost everything else. Here is how I explain it.
We are made up of cells. That is what we are, one big bag of cells, and every single cell has a job to do. The better our cells can do their job, the better our health is going to be.
Each cell has a cell membrane, the outer layer of the cell. That membrane, depending on what it is made with, is either flexible and allows nutrients in and waste out, or it can become very rigid, and then nutrients have a very hard time getting in and waste has a hard time getting out.
That is directly related to our omega 6 to 3 balance. Omega 6s cause inflammation. Omega 3s reduce inflammation. We need them in balance. If you get a cut or sprain an ankle, you need inflammation to help the healing process. But then once things calm down, you need that omega 3 to come in and reduce the inflammation.
Because of the western diet, and honestly it is a worldwide diet now, we all have way too many omega 6s.
What the testing shows
98%
of people tested have far too many omega 6s
25:1
the ratio most people are carrying
1:1
what our DNA is designed for
This comes from almost 2 million tests, so it is a large sample size.
What we aim for
The goal is to get your 6:3 ratio to 3 omega 6 to 1 omega 3, or better. So 3:1 down toward 1:1, which is the DNA design. With that, the cells function better.
It takes about 120 days of supplementing with a very high quality omega 3. Most people are very depleted when they start, so as you bring your omega 3s up, these numbers come into balance.
The reason we retest is that you get to see it rather than take my word for it.
How the test works
- It uses a dried blood spot technique, which needs only a few drops of blood from your fingertip. You do it at home.
- It measures 11 fatty acids in your blood, focused on your omega 6 to omega 3 ratio.
- It covers the last 120 days, so it reflects how you have actually been eating, not just this week.
- Your results come back online in about 10 to 20 days, and we go through them together.
- A standard annual physical does not include this one.
